Pure tungsten electrode WP (green tip) is the traditional choice for AC TIG welding of aluminium and magnesium. On AC, the tip forms a stable hemispherical ball naturally, which keeps the arc steady and produces clean, oxide-free weld beads on light alloys.

Frequently asked questions
Is pure tungsten only for aluminium?
WP is mainly used on AC for aluminium and magnesium. It can be used on DC, but ceriated or lanthanated electrodes usually start and run better there.
Does the WP tip need balling before welding?
On AC the ball forms by itself within seconds of striking the arc. Many welders simply start welding and let the tip shape itself.
Which sizes are available?
WP is supplied from 1.0 mm to 6.4 mm diameter in 150 mm and 175 mm lengths. Other sizes are available on request — see the size table.
