Thoriated Tungsten Electrode (WT20) — Red TIG Tungsten Electrode
Thoriated tungsten electrode WT20 (red tip) contains 2% thorium oxide and is the long-established DC electrode for steel, stainless and alloy work. It starts easily, carries high current and keeps its tip shape far longer than pure tungsten.

Main features
- High current load capacity on DCEN
- Easy arc starting and a stable, focused arc
- Long service life with low burn-off
- Widely proven on DC steel and alloy welding
Recommended applications
Carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel; also nickel and titanium applications on DCEN. Note: WT20 contains a small amount of thorium oxide — handle, store and transport it in line with your local regulations, or consider ceriated WC20 as a non-radioactive alternative.

Frequently asked questions
Is thoriated tungsten radioactive?
WT20 contains about 2% thorium oxide, which is mildly radioactive. Grinding dust is the main concern, so follow local handling rules and use extraction when grinding. Many users now choose ceriated WC20 or lanthanated WL20 instead.
Can WT20 be used on AC?
WT20 is designed for DCEN. On AC it is harder to keep the arc stable and the ball does not form as cleanly as on WP or zirconiated electrodes.
Do you ship thoriated electrodes worldwide?
Yes, we export WT20 regularly. Transport rules differ by country — tell us your destination and we will confirm what documentation is needed.
Need a quotation for tungsten electrodes?
Tell us the type, diameter, length and quantity — mixed sizes are welcome. We reply with specification, price and lead time.
